Tokyo 2020 Olympic: Qatar's Weightlifter Faris Ibrahim Wins a Historic Gold Medal
Tokyo, July 31 (QNA) - Qatar's weightlifter Faris Ibrahim presented Qatar with the first gold medal in the history of its participation in the Olympics after he won the gold medal in the 96kg weightlifting competition for men at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The historic achievement of the 23-year-old Qatari weightlifter came after he lifted a total of 402 kg, which is a new Olympic record. It is the first gold medal in the history of Qatar's participation in the Olympic Games.
Venezuelan Villanilla Sanchez finished second whilst while the bronze went to Georgian Plisnoll Anton.
This is Faris Ibrahim's second participation after the 2016 Rio Olympics in 85 kg weightlifting competition, when he finished in seventh place.
Faris Ibrahim qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, after winning the gold in the 96 kg weightlifting category in the Qatar International Cup. (QNA)
