Minister of Culture and Sports Hails Qatar's Accomplishment of First Olympic Gold Medal
Doha, July 31 (QNA) - HE Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali congratulated HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, the Qatar Olympic Committee headed by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani and the Qatari people on the occasion of Qatars winning of the first Olympic gold medal.
HE the Minister of Culture and Sports stated that Qatar's winning of the first gold medal in the history of its participation in the Olympic Games represents a new sporting achievement and a natural extension of the accomplishments made by Qatari sport over the past decades.
HE the Minister added that the new accomplishment reflects the distinction of Qatari participation in global championships and the good preparation, and the determination of Qatari champions to achieve new titles and accomplishments that enhance Qatars global position in the sports field.
In conclusion, HE Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali wished all luck to the Qatari champions participating in the Olympic games, and to set an example in sportsmanship and sports brilliance.
Weightlifter Fares Ibrahim claimed Qatar's first Olympic gold medal on Saturday in the 96kg category at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, lifting a total weight of 402kg in a new Olympic Record. (QNA)
