Ministry of Culture and Sports Announces Details of Digital Broadcasting System (DAB)
Doha, September 28 (QNA) - Radio Broadcasting Department at the Ministry of Culture and Sports revealed the details of the Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), which came within the framework of keeping pace with the technology revolution, which includes radio broadcasting.
The launch of the new system comes in light of finding better means of radio broadcasting, as the is a desire to keep pace with development.
After the reliance was previously focused on AM and FM frequencies, the DAB was developed through devices installed into cars. Listening to DAB is also available through portable devices.
This project attracts requests for licenses for radio channels with DAB technology, which provides its services to government entities and various community institutions.
Ambulances and civil defense can benefit from the Digital Audio Broadcasting, which will provide various radio services through satellites.
The DAB uses advanced techniques for encoding and compression, and it is characterized by selectivity and high sound quality by providing many additional data and information, such as some traffic data related to congestion sites and weather maps.
Among the most prominent advantages of DAB digital radio broadcasting, is the significant saving in transmission costs and the improved signal quality, as well as the low-cost of receivers and the ease of searching for radio stations by name and not by frequency, along with sound quality and clarity and the ability to pause and rewind the recording of a live radio broadcast. In addition, there is no need for a large number of frequencies, which solves the problem of the low number of frequencies in the country.
The DAB system is also characterized by a decrease in the maintenance cost by nearly half, and the energy system is saved more than forty times. The thermal dissipation of this new system is 18 times less than the FM system, and the cost of operating it is much lower.
Requests to obtain licensing services are submitted through requesting the service from the Ministry of Culture and Sports' website https://www.mcs.gov.qa/ . (QNA)
