EU Supports Ukraine with Fighter Jets, 500 Million Euros for Weapons Purchase
Brussels, February 28 (QNA) - EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell announced that the Union is ready to supply Ukrainian forces with fighter jets.
Following a meeting via teleconference with EU foreign ministers on Monday, which was preceded by a phone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Borrell said that Kuleba asked for fighting jets owned by some Union's members.
"We're going to provide even fighting jets. We're not talking about just ammunition. We are providing more important arms to go to a war," Borrell told a press conference.
The European Union has made a political decision to provide Ukraine with half a billion euros in defense aid against Russian operation, of which EUR 450 million will be spent on weapons and another 50 million on another materials such as fuel and protective gear, said Josep Borrell.
Thanks to the new sanctions, about half of Russia's reserves will be blocked in the G7, he added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin commanded the Ministry of Defense and the Chief of Staff to put the nuclear deterrent forces in the Russian army in a "special regime of combat duty", denouncing the economic sanctions imposed by the West on his country in response to the military operation in Ukraine.
