Qatars Minister of Labor Elected Vice-President of International Labor Conference

Doha, May 27 (QNA) - The Ministry of Labor is participating in the 110th session of the International Labor Conference 2022 with a high-level delegation headed by HE Minister of Labor Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh Al Marri, and during the opening session of the conference, he was elected Vice-President of the Conference on behalf of government representatives, in addition to the election of two Vice-Presidents for employers and workers representatives.
HE Minister of Labor Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh Al Marri, assuming the position of Vice-President of the International Labor Conference underlines the pivotal role played by the State of Qatar during the past years in the labor sector, reflects the legislative reforms, and highlights its achievements, various measures and initiatives to establish a safe and healthy work environment.
On this occasion, His Excellency said: "My election as Vice-President of the International Labor Conference evinces the appreciation of the efforts of the State of Qatar in the labor sector, and also reflects the confidence of Asia and the Pacific in representing them through such crucial position during the 110th session of the International Labor Conference." His Excellency underlined that the International Labor Conference succeeded in providing a qualitative global platform that brings together the three parties to work, which facilitated discussions over social issues related to realm of labor, and the search for constructive solutions, noting that this year's conference is of key importance as it is being held in attendance - for the first time- in two years due to the fallout of COVID-19 outbreak and the successive global crises that emanated and triggered adverse impacts on the labor sector around the world.
HE Minister of Labor communicated hopes that the conference would achieve the desired goals of its convening and come out with recommendations that would enhance consensus between the three working parties and support their ability to overcome the effects of the crises that the world was exposed to during previous periods.
The International Labor Conference is the highest decision-making authority of the ILO, which provides a real platform through which governments, employers' and labor' organizations in member states can hold tripartite discussions on social and labor issues.
The International Labor Conference, or the "International Labor Parliament", is held in Geneva annually to set ILO general policies , including conventions and recommendations.
In light of successive global crises, the 110th session of the International Labor Conference 2022 is of special importance, especially due to the successive global crises that resulted in the negative impacts on labor world.
The conference will discuss, through various committees or panel discussions a myriad of concerns associated with labor sector worldwide, including the possibility of amending the ILO Declaration on fundamental principles and rights at work to include safe and healthy working conditions, in addition to discussing the adoption of an international instrument on apprenticeships.
The committees will also discuss concepts of suitable work, social and solidarity economy, and the strategic objective of employment as part of the follow-up mechanism to the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization.
The various committees of the conference will hold intensive meetings starting from May 30, while the plenary sessions will be held from June 6 to 11, the high-level summit will be held on June 10, and the conference will wrap up on June 11.
The delegation of each member state to the conference consists of two delegates from the government, one delegate from the employers, one delegate from the workers, in addition to their advisors, where the delegates of employers and workers are selected in agreement with the most representative national organizations of employers and workers. Also, heads of states and prime ministers of member states participate annually in the conference, as well as international organizations, governmental and others, as observers. (QNA)
