US State Dep. Affirms Strong Partnership with Sudan

Khartoum, June 14 (QNA) - US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee affirmed that the US remains committed to a strong partnership with the people of Sudan. She said that the time has come for constructive dialogue between stakeholders and action to establish a civilian-led transitional framework.
The statement came in a press release issued, today, by the US Embassy in Khartoum concerning Phee's current visit to Sudan from June 5-9 to encourage Sudanese stakeholders to take actions to establish a civilian-led transitional framework.
The statement underlined the efforts made during the visit to build needed confidence in the role of the trilateral mechanism for political dialogue. The trilateral mechanism includes United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), the African Union (AU), and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). The statement pointed out the US official met with broad sectors of both military and civilian sides. The US official underscored the need for immediate and future progress and reiterated strong US support for the Sudanese peoples democratic aspirations as well as the continuous interest in the implementation of confidence-building measures.
