Arab Parliament Underlines Importance of International Efforts to Maintain Refugees Basic Needs

  • ArabLeague

Cairo, June 20 (QNA) - The Arab Parliament affirmed the importance of uniting international efforts to find radical and just solutions that would preserve the human rights of refugees and reduce their suffering, especially in light of the tough challenges and difficult circumstances that cast a shadow, both on the health and economic conditions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the repercussions of the global crisis against the backdrop of the Russian-Ukrainian tensions.
In a statement on the occasion of the World Refugee Day, which falls on June 20 of each year, the Arab Parliament stated that the Arab region is one of the regions in the world facing refugee challenges and problems, especially in light of hosting nearly half of the total refugees worldwide.
It referred in particular to the tragic conditions of Palestinian refugees, as they are the ones who have suffered the most from the crimes of forced displacement practiced by the Israeli occupation authorities (the occupying power), in disregard of the resolutions of international legitimacy, including Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly No. 194 of 1,948.
The Arab Parliament called on the international community and international donors to provide the full necessary support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) so that it can fulfill its full responsibilities toward the Palestinian refugees through aid and funding to enable it to continue its work, and assume its social responsibilities towards them, as well as its political and legal responsibilities by securing their rights and the rights of the countries hosting them, and to provide the basic requirements for more than 6.4 million Palestinian refugees.
At the same time, the Arab Parliament commended the tireless efforts made by all Arab countries hosting refugees, to provide them with basic needs, as well as to integrate them into work and education environments, despite the difficult challenges that this poses at all levels without discrimination.
