Al Hilal SFC and Al Zamalek SC Confirm Participation in Lusail Super Cup

Doha, August 29 (QNA) - Representatives from the Egyptian and Saudi football federations have signed an agreement with the Lusail Super Cup Local Organizing Committee to confirm their participation in the Lusail Super Cup.

The Lusail Super Cup will be contested by the champions of Egypt and Saudi Arabia at the 80,000-capacity Lusail Stadium, which will also host the FIFA World Cup final later this year.

Chief Executive Officer of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC Nasser Al Khater said: "There is no better way to test the full capacity of Lusail Stadium than by hosting two of the regions biggest clubs.

Both Al Hilal and Al Zamalek enjoy massive support and boast a stellar record of accolades at both domestic and continental levels their pedigree will be a perfect match for a venue as magnificent as Lusail Stadium."

For his part, Mansoor Al Ansari, Secretary General, Qatar Football Association, said: "The Lusail Super Cup will showcase Qatars tremendous facilities ahead of an historic edition of the FIFA World Cup. We are delighted to be hosting two of the regions most prestigious clubs at this outstanding venue, which will illustrate our readiness for the World Cup and highlight the deep passion for football in this part of the world." Representing the Saudi football federation was Ibrahim Al Kassim, General Secretary of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.

Representing the Saudis in the Lusail Super Cup will be Al Hilal SFC, who lifted a third successive Saudi Pro League title this year, making them the most decorated club in the competitions history.

The title win rounded off a memorable season for Al Hilal, who also lifted a record fourth AFC Champions League title last November.

Al Kassim said: "We are thrilled to be taking part in the Lusail Super Cup. With the World Cup coming to the region for the first time in just a few months from now, we are all delighted to join in these historic celebrations and hope that our match against Zamalek shows off the tremendous abilities that Qatar has to host the worlds biggest sporting event." Faisal Al Ghashiyan, member of the Al Ahli SFC board of directors, was also in attendance.

Signing on behalf of the Egyptian Football Association was Executive Director, Waleed El Attar. The Egyptians will be represented by Al Zamalek SC. Amir Mortada Mansour, General Supervisor of Football at Al Zamalek SC, was also present.

El Attar said: "The World Cup in Qatar will be an historic event for all Arabs to take pride in. To have the opportunity to play at the venue which will host the World Cup final is a tremendous honour for our club. We look forward to being part of a wonderful match against Al Hilal one that will celebrate the tremendous achievements of Qatar, as we build-up to the most important competition in world football." From 20 November to 18 December, Qatar will host the most compact edition of the FIFA World Cup in modern history.

With the longest distance between stadiums just 75km, fans and competing teams will be able to reside in one accommodation throughout the competition.

Lusail Stadium is Qatars biggest FIFA World Cup tournament venue. It will host ten matches during Qatar 2022, starting with Argentina versus Saudi Arabia on 22 November and culminating with the final on 18 December.

The stadium boasts a host of sustainability features, including a roof made from PTFE that protects the venue from warm wind, keeps out dust and allows in enough light for the pitch to grow while providing shade to reduce the burden on the stadiums air conditioning.

The venue recently achieved a five-star Global Sustainability Assessment System rating for its design and build and a Class A rating for construction management.
