Somali President Meets US Secretary of State

Washington, September 17 - (QNA) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud discussed with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in the American capital Washington today, bilateral relations between the two countries, especially the support provided by the United States to Mogadishu in facing the challenges the country is going through, such as drought. and combating armed groups.
The Somali president stressed the importance of preventing environmental degradation, the government's efforts to prevent famine, the Somali popular revolution against armed groups and the efforts of his country's army to liberate the few remaining areas controlled by these groups.
For his part, the US Secretary of State affirmed the US government's continued support for Somalia in facing these challenges, as well as building the government, developing social services and the economic infrastructure.
On Friday, the Somali president discussed, with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin cooperation between the two countries in the areas of security and regional stability as well as increasing US support for the Mogadishu authorities in their fight against armed groups. Meanwhile, Austin affirmed his country's commitment to strengthening cooperation and supporting Somalia in the humanitarian, relief and military areas, considering that the stability of Somalia is the basis for peace in the Horn of Africa.(QNA)
