Khartoum, September 22 (QNA) - Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al Burhan affirmed his commitment to enhancing the peaceful transition mechanisms in the country to achieve a full democratic transformation through just, fair and transparent elections by the end of the transitional period to reach a civilian rule.

This came during his speech before the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, where he confirmed his commitment to cooperating with the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan to support the transitional period in Sudan, based on UN principles, charters and mandate as enshrined the resolution that formed the mission, reiterating his keenness to cooperate with United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

He affirmed that his government has afforded all kinds of support to the Tripartite Mechanism composed of UN, AU and IGAD, saying that they took and wasted valuable time, albeit the support they had received, without achieving what was required from them, which has evidently complicated the tracks of national accord dialogues, he said, pointing out that Juba peace agreement had reduced the pace of conflict in Darfur and achieved the security and stability in the region. He noted that Darfur region witnesses the increasing rates of voluntary return for the displaced people to their areas, in addition to forming the first group of the joint forces for civilians protection, calling on the international community to provide aid and assistance to push the peace benefits forward under Juba peace accord.

With regard to Sudans foreign debts, he appealed to the international community and the friendly and brotherly countries to live up to their commitments and abide by the obligations they made in the Paris 2020 and Berlin 2021 meetings, stressing that his country has completed all the legislations required to benefit from debt relief, pointing out that Sudan is qualified to achieve food security at the regional and international levels, calling on UN and its professional agencies, including regional organizations and friendly countries to contribute to supporting Sudan's efforts to achieve food security through agricultural technology, capacity building and support the building of agricultural researches, emphasizing that Sudan handles the project of UNSC reform within the framework of the unified African position and builds its position from the unofficial government negotiation on reform which entails the importance of the centrality of the reform topic to be comprehensive.
