Japanese PM: Russian Threats to Use Nuclear Weapons is 'Deeply Disturbing'

  • Japan

Sydney, October 22 (QNA) - Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida warned today that Russia's use of nuclear weapons would be considered a "hostile act against humanity," stressing that such threats are "deeply disturbing."

Kishida said at a press conference in Perth, the capital of Western Australia, that the Russian threat to use nuclear weapons constitutes a serious threat to the peace and security of the international community and is totally unacceptable.

In May next year, Kishida is expected to host leaders from the G7 countries in Hiroshima, where a US nuclear bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945, resulting in the deaths of 140,000 people. The Japanese city of Nagasaki was hit three days later.

The Japanese Prime Minister considered that this 77-year period of no nuclear weapons use "must not be ended.", adding that "If nuclear weapons were ever used, that would be an act of hostility against humanity, the international community will never allow such an act," describing the Russian president's wave Vladimir Putin this threat as "deeply disturbing."

The Japanese Prime Minister added that he agreed with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese that relations between the two countries, which are allies of the United States, have reached a new level due to their close cooperation in the fields of security, energy and natural resources.

Japanese Prime Minister added by saying that as one of the biggest achievements of this visit, they signed a new joint declaration on security cooperation, and this will serve as a compass that shows the direction of bilateral cooperation in the fields of security and defense over the next ten years.

Albanese and Kishida discussed climate change and expressed their support for the regional transition to zero CO2 emissions, including promoting investment in clean energy technologies.

Australia is a major supplier of iron ore, coal and gas to Japan, and the aim of the meeting in Perth, 3,700 km from Canberra, is to highlight the importance of Western Australia in supplying Japan with its energy needs, including renewable energy. (QNA)
