Doha, November 01 (QNA) - The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has inaugurated the human rights office at Hamad International Airport (HIA) in preparation for receiving FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fans.
In this context, HE Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali underlined the importance of the committee's office which occupies a prestigious place in HIA to target the coming fans, and to operate as a preemptive mechanism for any reported infractions, provide the human rights related assistance, if necessary, as well as raising the awareness through the distribution of awareness brochures prepared by NHRC for this occasion, which will indubitably help the coming fans understand numerous matters during their stay on the land of the State of Qatar, pointing out that the inauguration of the office is considered one of the vital fruits yielded by the memorandum of understanding that has been signed recently between NHRC and Qatar Company for Airports Operation and Management (MATAR) with the objective of supporting the cooperation and fostering the partnership between the two parties in diffusing the culture of human rights, capitalizing on the two parties' expertise and experiences and employing them further to promote and safeguard the human rights within the framework of the two parties' jurisdictions.
His Excellency pointed out that NHRC had embarked upon training its cadres during the past period and focused on human rights in the international Airports, ways to deal with the fans coming from diverse nationalities, cultures and religious creeds, work to contain these diversities based on human rights laws and principles, offer training courses on the importance of entrenching human rights principles through the good governance, rights-based approach to identification at Borders, in addition to the measures of hosting FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, human rights relevant laws, immigration laws and their amendments, customs related laws and borders management in an integrated, secure and coordinated manner, noting the engagement of a host of volunteers from Oman Human Rights Commission to work with NHRC cadres during the tournament period in a first-of-its-kind initiative that reflects humanity values and the credible cohesion, indicating that the team will operate in an integrated manner to offer everything that would achieve a successful tournament which is held in one of the Middle East countries for the first time in history.
He elucidated that the office represents a rapid tool to overcome any potential hurdles encountered by the fans and solving them in the shortest possible time through the effective cooperation with the competent entities, underscoring NHRC's keenness to promote the rights of transference, expression and fans' support to their teams and other rights in pursuit of protecting the fans during the tournament, adding that NHRC has prepared substantial quantity of introductory and awareness brochures that set forth the rights and duties, including bulletins with several languages, as well as hotlines that will receive the inbound phone calls of every single person who is willing to communicate with NHRC around the clock.
For his part, Vice President of Commercial, Marketing and Communications at HIA Abdulaziz AlMass said that he is pleased to have NHRC inaugurated at HIA, which intends to foster the partnership between the two parties in implementation of the cooperation agreement that has been signed recently between HIA and NHRC, noting the importance of providing all criteria to ensure protection of the rights of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fans.
In the same context, Head of the delegation of the Oman Human Rights Commission Al Mu'ather bin Ahmed Al Siyabi underlined that the inauguration of NHRC in HIA is considered great achievement, especially at the time the State of Qatar receives substantial number of the tournament fans, noting the significance of this office to offer counselling, awareness and legal services which are of utmost importance for the people coming to the State of Qatar.
