Sharm El Sheikh, November 06 (QNA) - HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al-Thani inspected the Qatari pavilion participating in the 27th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27) hosted by the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh, under the Blue Zone, which includes all participating pavilions from Arab and African countries as well as international institutions in the conference on climate change.
HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, who was accompanied by HE the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Climate Change and Sustainability Ambassador Badr Omar Ismail Al Dafa on the inspection tour, stressed that Qatar's participation aims to present the country's achievements in facing climate change on various fronts, especially preserving the environment in various sectors: oil, natural gas, energy, water, transportation, building, construction and infrastructure, by mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, and adapting to the negative effects of climate change.
The State of Qatar's pavilion will hold various activities, including presentations covering the topics of greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, climate change effects adaption, economic diversification, research and development in the field of climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements, waste management and ways to benefit from carbon dioxide, water security, food security and biodiversity, in addition to screening videos, photos and 3D models highlighting Qatar's efforts in the field of climate change.
It is noteworthy that Qatari efforts in the field of environment and climate change are not new. In 2012, the State of Qatar hosted one of the important phases of climate change negotiations: the COP18 conference, as Qatar seeks to enhance its international role within the framework of the United Nations system concerned with climate change.
The State of Qatar has, through its national team, participated in the negotiations on the climate change agreement and the Paris Agreement, to preserve national interests in the issue of climate change, such as the negative effects of response measures, economic diversification and the balancing between adaptation and mitigation, and their mutual benefits, in coordination with the various negotiating groups, in compliance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
The COP27 UN Climate Change Conference constitutes an important opportunity for heads of state, government and ministers during high-level meetings to discuss common environmental issues in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement. The State of Qatar participated in COP27 to complement its previous participation in this field. (QNA)
