Tehran, November 14 (QNA) - Iran midfielder Omid Ebrahimi will be left off his country's squad for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 over a groin injury.

Al Wakra player, a standout performer in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, sustained his injury during last week's friendly against Nicaragua.

This comes at a time when Portuguese coach Carlos Queirozs World Cup list will include Bayer Leverkusens striker Sardar Azmoun and Porto's Mehdi Taremi.

The 27-year-old Azmoun sustained an injury while warming up for his side's Champions League clash with Porto on Oct. 4.

In their six World Cup appearance, Iran were drawn in Group B along with England, US and Wales. Their first clash will be against England on Nov. 21, then against Wales on Nov. 25 before they conclude their group stage on Nov. 29 against the US.
