4.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Coast of Vanuatu in Pacific Ocean

Port Vila, January 17 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck on Tuesday off the coast of Vanuatu Island in the South Pacific Ocean.
The US Geological Survey stated that the tremor occurred 36 km southwest of Port Vila in Vanuatu, at a depth of 10 km.
There were no reports of human or material losses as a result of the tremor.
At the beginning of January, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Vanuatu, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Vanuatu Island, which is archipelago of volcanic origin, lies on the so-called 'South Pacific Ring of Fire' - a zone of frequent seismic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates. (QNA)
