Oslo, January 17 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Svalbard archipelago in northern Norway.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said that the epicenter of the earthquake was 575 km northwest of the island in Longyearbyen town at a depth of 2km.
There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake.
In 2008, one of the largest earthquakes hit the regions of Norway with a magnitude of 6.2. It struck the Svalbard archipelago at a depth of 10 km under the sea. (QNA)
