Colombo, January 18 (QNA) - Qatar Charity (QC) has announced a new $11 million package of humanitarian and development projects to be implemented in Sri Lanka in 2023.
This came during the meeting of Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry with QC Chief Executive Officer Yousef Ahmed Al Kuwari and his accompanying delegation, currently visiting Sri Lanka, in the presence of a number of officials at the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the visit, an inauguration ceremony for the new office of QC in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, was held in the presence of HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Sri Lanka Jassim bin Jaber Al Suroor, along with several officials and Ambassadors accredited to Sri Lanka.
Al Kuwari asserted that QC is committed to providing all kinds of support to Sri Lanka, noting the keenness to ensure that development interventions that will be carried out by Colombo office are in commensurate with the strategic plans of the ministries and relevant entities in Sri Lanka.
He hailed the support provided by the various government entities in Sri Lanka to QC in pursuit of expediting its humanitarian and development functions.
The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister welcomed QC's pledge to implement a package of new projects during 2023 in his country, considering them a crucial step, and part and parcel of the longstanding historic ties between the two countries.
He also praised QC's efforts in the field of humanitarian and development action at the local and international levels, and hoped that QC would provide its aid to the needy segments in Sri Lanka in the areas of health, education, food security, economic empowerment, housing and social care.
Qatar Charity started its humanitarian and development projects in Sri Lanka in 1993. The projects were implemented in coordination with local charitable organizations, until QC official office was inaugurated in Colombo in 2018. (QNA)
