Saudi Minister of Human Resources, Social Development: Arab Region Witnessing Many Development Challenges

Doha, January 25 (QNA) - HE Minister of Human Resources and Social Development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Chairman of the 41st session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, Eng. Ahmad bin Sulaiman Al Rajhi said that the High-Level Event of the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, held under the theme 'the rights of persons with disabilities and multidimensional poverty: further implementation of the 2030 agenda for the sustainable development plan and beyond', comes as a continuation of the efforts of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs in various developmental social fields, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
His Excellency noted that today's event in Doha comes to complement this important effort and to develop the necessary perceptions, policies and initiatives that support efforts to continue implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan and beyond.
He pointed out that the Arab region is witnessing many development challenges, foremost of which is poverty in its various dimensions, indicating that the Arab countries have made important endeavors and initiatives to reduce multidimensional poverty rates and eliminate it by working with the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs.
He stated that as a continuation of those efforts and initiatives, and in implementation of the decisions of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, the side event was held on the sidelines of the conference of the Report of the 14th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to discuss the need to develop a collaborative approach to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and to identify existing gaps and challenges in this regard, and the exchange of lessons learned, experiences and good practices in the Arab region and the world on the best ways to support them.
HE Eng. Al Rajhi affirmed that the expected "Doha Declaration" from this event will contribute to strengthening and supporting joint Arab social action, within the framework of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs.
Al Rajhi extended his greetings and appreciation to the State of Qatar for organizing the work of the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, and the high-level event on 'the rights of persons with disabilities and multidimensional poverty: further implementation of the 2030 agenda for the sustainable development plan and beyond'.
He also stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia pays great attention to the social and developmental conditions, not only within it, but also in many brotherly countries, in its keenness to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially in the least developed countries, and to focus on priority groups. He praised the initiative of HE the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States targeting persons with disabilities, for its effective contribution, not only to reducing poverty rates for this group, but also through entrepreneurship projects and finding decent work for them, and as it also highlights the enormous potential of the Arab region in this field.
