Ministry of Culture to Organize Ramadan Book Fair March on 30

Doha, March 22 (QNA) - Under the patronage of HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Ministry of Culture (MOC) announced Wednesday the organization of the Ramadan Book Fair in its 2nd edition from March 30 to April 5 at Darb AL Saai headquarters in Umm Salal with the participation of 79 publishing houses and bookstores from within Qatar and abroad.
Out of its keenness to expand the benefits of the Ramadan Book Fair and be in pace with the atmosphere of the holy month, the MOC in cooperation with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, the Ministry of Social Development and Family, and Qatar Reads Initiative, organizes a number of events and accompanying activities, including a series of cultural and religious lectures and seminars, an exhibition of productive projects, artistic and heritage activities for children and adults, and celebrating the Garangao night.
In a statement marking the occasion, HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani said that Ramadan Book Fair is a new episode in a cultural season full of events throughout the year. His Excellency noted the immense success of the seminar series in its second edition enriched the cultural scene and the constructive intellectual space around historical and contemporary issues, and that is what the Ministry seeks in its interest in such cultural events.
His Excellency added that the Ramadan Book Fair draws its objectives from the vision of the MOC that aims at strengthening the efforts of localizing books and the publishing industry in Qatar, highlighting book creativities in various fields while honoring its author, and opening broader aspects for cooperation between writers and publishers, in a way that supports book marketing and expands its circle of readers.
His Excellency stressed that such fairs contribute to reviving people's interest in books, shed light on the importance of reading and its role in people's lives, in addition to its extended impact on the cultural and literary movement in Qatar.
In turn, Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Culture Dr. Ghanem bin Mubarak Al Ali Al Maadeed said that the Ramadan Book Fair aims to invest the atmosphere of the holy month in developing the religious, social, and cultural knowledge, in addition to allowing the visitors to choose books suitable for various age-ranges in various branches of knowledge.
Holding the Ramadan Book Fair for the second time in a row is an embodiment of the MOC's keenness to enhance and increase people's attachment to reading and books by intensifying initiatives and programs supporting it for all segments of society and all age ranges. (QNA)
