Tashkent, June 07 (QNA) - The visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the Republic of Uzbekistan captured the attention of the Uzbek media, describing the visit as "historic."

In a report under the title of 'Uzbekistan - Qatar: Historic Visit That Opened New Horizons for Cooperation,' Uzbekistan National News Agency (UZA) addressed the chronological order of His Highness' activities during the visit, from his arrival until his departure.

UZA said in its report that the diplomatic relations between the two countries began 25 years ago, pointing out that this happens to be His Highness' first visit to Uzbekistan, which was a result of the development of cooperation between the two countries in recent years, as the two sides made comprehensive preparations for the visit, and several important documents were signed.

The Uzbek news agency explained that the official talks session held between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, paid special attention to issues of developing political dialogue, cultural and humanitarian exchange, and building commercial, economic and investment cooperation. UZA emphasized that this has been the first high-level visit in the history of diplomatic relations, noting that it will pave the way for a new stage in bilateral cooperation and allow it to be elevated to the level of a comprehensive partnership.

According to the Uzbek news agency, HE President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that he sees Qatar as a promising partner not only in the Middle East region, but throughout the Arab and Islamic world, adding that there has been real progress in bilateral relations in recent years.

The agency pointed out that, at the end of the talks between the two countries and with the attendance of HH the Amir and HE Uzbek President, a ceremony was held to sign 15 bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at further developing and strengthening commercial, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other area of cooperation.

In a related context, Uzbek newspaper 'Yangi O'zbekiston' said that the visit of HH the Amir to Uzbekistan will become a historical milestone in the Uzbek-Qatari relations, and will play a major role in their development.

The paper issued a report under the title 'Uzbekistan and Qatar Open New Page of Multifaceted Cooperation,' noting that the State of Qatar recognized the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Dec. 30, 1991, and the joint protocol on establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed on Nov. 27, 1997, considering that the basis for the development of high-level political dialogue between the two countries was the official visit of the Uzbek President to the State of Qatar from Nov. 23-24, 2010, as well as the meeting of the President of Uzbekistan with His Highness on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing on Feb. 5, 2022.

The paper indicated that the dialogue between the two countries is constantly evolving, as well as interaction within the framework of international organizations, particularly the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and others.

The paper pointed out that the two countries support each other in constructive initiatives and nominations within the framework of international organizations, adding that the State of Qatar participated in several UN resolutions initiated by Uzbekistan, such as the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 'Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance" (December 2018) and UNGA Resolution 'Strengthening Connectivity Between Central, South Asia' (July 2022).

The State of Qatar supports Uzbekistan's efforts to reach a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan, the paper said, adding that, Uzbekistan - in turn, fully supports the measures taken by the State of Qatar to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, considering Qatar a promising economic partner in the Middle East.

The paper concluded its report by saying that the Uzbek-Qatari summit in Samarkand will be an important political step to start a new stage of cooperation and turn it into a multifaceted level.

In the context of its coverage of the visit of HH the Amir to Uzbekistan, Yangi O'zbekiston said that HH the Amir and HE President of Uzbekistan planted a tree in the visitors' area designated for leaders and presidents in the Congress Center's garden as a symbol of the visit, as well as the beginning of a new era in Uzbek-Qatari relations and the commitment of the two leaderships to strengthening friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

For its part, the Uzbek Gazeta newspaper published a report under the title 'Uzbekistan and Qatar Intend to Raise Level of Cooperation to Level of Comprehensive Partnership,' in which the paper noted that, during his talks session with HH the Amir in Samarkand, HE Uzbek President expressed his confidence that the relations between the two countries will reach the level of comprehensive partnership.
