Hanoi, September 11 (QNA) - US President Joe Biden said on Monday that his country's relations with Vietnam had "entered a new stage".
The US President, who is currently visiting Vietnam, said after meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Phu Trong and a number of senior Vietnamese officials in the capital, Hanoi, that his country's relations with Vietnam have entered a "new stage."
President Biden added that his visit to Vietnam was to showcase that stronger ties with Hanoi isn't about trying to start a "cold war" with China, but rather was part of a broader effort to provide global stability by building US relationships throughout Asia.
President of Vietnam said that Biden's visit is interesting and meaningful occasion, especially as the two countries celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Partnership, adding that the visit "is an excellent opportunity for the leaders of our two countries to exchange views on bilateral ties and relevant international issues."
The White House said in a statement Monday that the US President also met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. They discussed the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken also convened a US-Vietnam Innovation and Investment Summit with US and Vietnamese industry leader to discuss priorities for expanding technology and economic cooperation, including Vietnamese investments in the United States. (QNA)
