Saudi Foreign Minister: Middle East Security Requires Comprehensive Solution to Palestinian Issue

New York, September 24 (QNA) - Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah underlined that the security of the Middle East requires a speedy, just, and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative to ensure the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's speech before the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed that all countries must abide by the UN Charter and the principles of international law, and that they must work together to build a better future for humanity based on mutual respect for sovereignty, independence, values, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful resolution of disputes, and the avoidance of the use or threat of force.
He said that Saudi Arabia reiterates its rejection and condemnation of all unilateral measures that are a violation and a flagrant violation of all international laws and contribute to undermining regional and international peace efforts and obstructing political solutions.
He also pointed to Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting all efforts to consolidate security and stability, and to facilitating dialogue, de-escalation, and the reduction of tensions. He urged regional countries to avoid escalation and to focus on exchanging interests and benefits that meet the aspirations of the peoples of the region.
The Saudi foreign minister added that his country has worked to consolidate the principle of collective action to build a better future for the region and the world, through hosting several joint regional summits within the framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab League with the participation of all countries.
He also stressed the importance of efforts to achieve the goals of nuclear disarmament, which begins with the realization of the need for the international community as a whole to fulfill its commitments to existing treaties and legal frameworks, to reach a world free of nuclear weapons, especially in the Middle East.
Saudi foreign minister said that his country is committed to maintaining the stability, reliability, sustainability, and security of global oil markets, and to meeting the needs of consumers. He stressed the importance of working with the OPEC+ group of oil-producing countries to ensure the stability of oil markets. He added that the OPEC+ policy has helped to stabilize oil markets by closely monitoring market conditions and adopting a precautionary approach.
Regarding the issue of repeated incidents of desecration and burning of copies of the Holy Quran, he said that Saudi Arabia supports the decision of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to hold an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers to discuss the issue. He also called for the need to promote dialogue, understanding, and cooperation between cultures and civilizations to achieve peace and harmony in the world. He said that it is important to respect human rights laws and conventions.
During his speech, the Saudi foreign minister pointed out the Kingdom's keenness on the security and stability of Yemen, supporting all efforts aimed at resolving the crisis there, alleviating the human suffering of the Yemeni people, and pushing towards reaching political solutions to restore security and stability to Yemen and ward off the threat to the Kingdom and the region.
Regarding Libya, Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed the importance of achieving security and stability in Libya, ensuring its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and stopping interference in its internal affairs, adding that Saudi Arabia supports a complete ceasefire in Libya.
In his speech, the Saudi foreign minister expressed his country's concern over the state of escalation and military clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, pointing to the Saudi initiative to host the parties to the conflict in Jeddah in support of efforts to de-escalation in Sudan in cooperation and coordination with the United States.
Regarding the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the Saudi foreign minister renewed his country's call to end the crisis and limit its negative repercussions on the security and stability of the world, emphasizing the necessity of resolving differences peacefully, respecting the principles of international law, and striving to preserve the security and interests of everyone.
Concerning the situation in Lebanon, the Saudi foreign minister stressed that his country calls on all Lebanese parties to implement comprehensive structural political and economic reforms that will lead to overcoming the current crisis.
Furthermore, Prince Faisal bin Farhan explained that Saudi Arabia considers Iraq's security and stability a fundamental pillar of the region's security and stability, and affirms its support for its security, development, territorial integrity, Arab identity, and social fabric.
Regarding the Afghan issue, Prince Faisal bin Farhan pointed out his country's emphasis on the importance of Afghanistan's security and stability, and respect for the basic rights of the Afghan people, including women's right to education and work, and urges the intensification of regional and international efforts to provide humanitarian and economic assistance to alleviate the suffering of Afghans.
