Pakistani Court Overturns Conviction of Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

  • Pakistan

Islamabad, November 30 (QNA) - A Pakistan court overturned the conviction of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a corruption case on Wednesday.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) acquitted Sharif in the Avenfield property reference setting aside his conviction by the accountability court, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

In 2018, a Pakistani court sentenced Sharif to ten years in jail for owning assets beyond known income, and disqualified him from holding office for life.

After serving ten months in jail, Sharif was allowed to travel abroad for medical treatment.

Sharif, who served as Pakistan's prime minister three times, denied any wrongdoing. (QNA)
