Doha, December 13 (QNA) - Fan leaders from 20 Asian countries wrapped up Wednesday a several-day visit to Qatar, where they saw closely the country's preparations for hosting the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, scheduled from Jan. 12 to Feb.10, 2024.
The 27-member delegation were involved in an extensive program to learn about Qatar's local culture, including visits to Doha's traditional markets and modern shopping centers. They also enjoyed the unique experience of the desert and the Qatari cuisine.
The delegation visited the venues expected to stage the tournament, including the 88,000-capacity Lusail Stadium, which will host the opening and final matches.
Fan Engagement Senior Manager at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 Local Organizing Committee, Faisal Khaled hailed the fan participation as the main key to achieving a successful hosting.
The fans are cultural exchange ambassadors; the local organizing committee leveraged the visit to offer a preview of the anticipated activities and events to welcome the fans and celebrate the launch of the event, Khaled said.
The first major sporting event that follows the country's exceptional FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 hosting, the event will revive World Cup memories in the minds of fans, many of whom are expected to re-visit Doha for the AFC Asian Cup, Khaled said. (QNA)
