Doha, January 08 (QNA) - Team Qatar footballer striker Almoez Ali seeks to write his name in history record once again as the top scorer of the Asian Cup during his participation with team Qatar in the 18th edition that will kick-off on Friday and lasts until Feb. 10, 2024.

The 27-year-old Almoez holds the record for scoring 9 goals in a single tournament for a player in the 2019 edition in the UAE, in addition to winning the title of the best player in the tournament, and the second fastest player to score a super hat-trick (4 goals) after the Iranian player Ali Daei, who scored 4 goals in 23 minutes against South Korea in the 1996 tournament.

Team Qatar's coach Marquez Lopez relies heavily on Almoez to be in his best physical and mental condition to repeat his creativity with distinguished performances and a full record scoring tally, just as he achieved in the last edition in which he led the team to achieve its first continental titles amid fans optimism.

The player will find himself facing a new challenge and repeating his 219 edition achievement, this time in his participation against competitors from the Asian teams, which include players from the major European leagues.

Almoez Ali is the only player to have scored in 3 different continental tournaments: the Asian Cup, the Copa America, and the Concacaf Gold Cup.

Defending their title, team Qatar will start their AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 journey by meeting Lebanon in the opening match at Lusail Stadium on Friday. (QNA)
