Doha, January 15 (QNA) - The Iraqi national team won their match against Indonesia 3-1 in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

Mohanad Ali, Osama Rashid and Aymen Hussein scored for Iraq, while Marselino Ferdinan scored the only goal for Indonesia.

Within Group D, Iraq and Japan stand with three points, while Vietnam and Indonesia remain with zero.

Held at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, the match between the two teams was thrilling on both sides, as the Iraqi team scored early in the game (in the 17th minute).

This pushed the Indonesian squad harder and the team managed to score at the 37th mark, leaving the score tied.

In stoppage time of the first half, Iraq scored its second goal.

The Iraqi team kept their strong momentum in the second half and Hussein scored the team's third goal in the 75th minute. Concluding the match with Iraq winning 3-1.

Iraqi national team player Amir Al Ammari was named the best player in the match.

The next matches of Group D will be on Jan. 19 where Iraq will face Japan and Vietnam will face Indonesia.

The 2007 AFC Asian Cup champions are participating in the tournament for the tenth time in its history. Iraq's first appearance was back in 1972 in Thailand, and since 1996, the team never missed the finals.

The Indonesian national team is competing for the fifth time and hopes to surpass the group stage, since in its last four participations in the Asian Cup, the team exited the tournament within the first round. (QNA)
