AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023/ Hussein's Red Card Led to Defeat, Says Iraq Coach

Doha, January 29 (QNA) - Iraq coach Jesus Casas said the sending off of striker Ayman Hussein was the main cause of today's 3-2 loss to Jordan in the round of 16 of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

The Spaniard told the post-match press conference his side were dominating specially in the second half, until the tournament top scorer received the second yellow card over excessive goal celebrations in the 77th minute.

Hussein was sent off in a critical moment after all substitutions were made, the 50-year-old added, holding all Iraqi team members responsible for the defeat.

Extending thanks to Iraqi fans for the wide support they received in Qatar, he added that heir goal was to qualify for the 2026 World Cup due in the US, Canada and Mexico. (QNA)
