Doha, March 05 (QNA) - Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) announced that the Sport City Station in Doha Metro has been awarded the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) Platinum Certificate for sustainable operations from the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD).
With this significant accomplishment, Sport City Station on the Gold Line of the Doha Metro has become the third station in the network to attain the prestigious GSAS Platinum certification for sustainable operation, following the achievements of Education City Station in October 2022 and Al Bidda Station in September 2023.
This achievement is in line with Qatar Rails efforts to adopt green building standards at Doha Metro stations, enhance sustainability, and support environmental conservation efforts by applying the highest standards and practices throughout all stages of operations for various metro facilities.
To attain the Platinum rating for GSAS Operations, Sport City Station underwent a thorough assessment across multiple facets. This included evaluating its energy efficiency, indoor environment quality, waste handling, facility management, water usage, and environmental policies and awareness.
The Qatar Rail projects have been distinguished, from the planning process to their operation, by using the latest technology and following the highest standards in performance and sustainability, which resulted in us obtaining prestigious accreditations, certificates, and awards in the field of sustainability.
In collaboration with its strategic partners, Qatar Rail continues its efforts aimed at having more metro stations receive prestigious certifications in the field of sustainability. Additionally, Qatar Rail is adopting additional plans and initiatives to support Qatar's vision for sustainable development, within its commitment to providing a sustainable railway transportation system in Qatar.
