Doha, March 21 (QNA) - HE Minister of Social Development and Family Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad inaugurated the Amna Al Jaidah Hall with the permanent exhibition titled "Honor the Past, to Celebrate the Future: Qatar's Educational Vision" at Liwan Design Studios and Labs.

The exhibition is held in collaboration with Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Qatar (VCUarts Qatar). It shows the legacy of Amna Al Jaidah, the founder and first principal of Qatar's inaugural girls' school, Banat El Doha, later renamed Umm Almo'mneen Primary School. This exhibition offers a compelling narrative that showcases the remarkable journey of female education in Qatar from 1938 to 2006, and meticulously highlights the profound impact this school has had on multiple generations of women. Visitors will get the chance to immerse themselves in the achievements of the school's alumnae and witness the captivating evolution from its origin to its metamorphosis into Liwan - an innovative hub fostering creativity since 2019.

This exhibition is a culmination of a project from the Exhibition Design class at VCUarts Qatar, and it is the result of joint efforts among esteemed faculty members and talented students from VCUarts Qatar: Fatima Bader Al Siddiqi (content manager), Kaltham Eissa Al Fakhroo (graphic design lead), Adila Hayati (graphic designer), Amna Al Humaidi (graphic designer), Humyra Najdan (graphic designer), Maryam Al Majid (interior design lead), Zainab Al Saffar (interior designer), Haneen Darwish (interior designer), Ayah El Fihail (interior designer), Lolwa Al-Thani (interior designer), and Israa Mahjoub (interior designer). The students works were integrated so that the exhibition combines information and interactive programs through videos and film materials that enhance the exhibitions message.

Acting Deputy CEO of Exhibitions, the Director of Central Exhibitions at Qatar Museums, and Professor at VCUarts Qatar, Sheikha Reem Al-Thani, stressed in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) the importance of this exhibition, as it pays tribute to Qatar's educational legacy and encourages all alumni to actively preserve and celebrate their treasured memories.

"It was a special chance for VCUarts Qatar students to be involved in every step of creating the exhibition, from coming up with ideas to designing and setting up this nostalgic display. For our alumni community, it's a unique opportunity to reconnect with the past and contribute to the story of our educational journey", she added.

In a related context, Liwan has launched the second edition of "Liwan for Good", a community-orientated charity event during the Holy Month of Ramadan, which seeks to bring together charitable institutions and local companies in an evening entitled "Giving".

Liwan provides designers who join as members with state-of-the-art labs for pottery, leatherworking, digital photography and prototyping, as well as private and shared studios. It also provides an integrated calendar of public programs, in order to increase awareness of local and global design thinking and its practices. (QNA)
