Qatar University Announces Launch of College of Sport Sciences

Doha, March 21 (QNA) - Qatar University (QU) announced the launch of the College of Sport Sciences on Thursday, recognizing the pivotal role of sports in enhancing the quality of life for individuals and communities and contributing to Qatar's overarching strategic vision.

In a press conference, QU indicated that this decision marks the 12th addition to QUs esteemed colleges. The college will offer a Bachelor of Science program in Sport Coaching and a Bachelor of Science program in Sports Management. The academic programs will be available for both males and females, with an expected intake of 40 students for the academic year 2025/2026 for each Bachelor program.

QU pointed out that in the fall of 2026, the college will introduce minors in the main programs: a minor in Sports Management, a minor in Sport Events Management & Facilities, a minor in Sports Marketing. As for the minors related to sports coaching, the college will offer a minor in sport coaching and a minor in sport coaching for special needs.

QU's Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Al Kaabi said: "We worked with relevant parties in the community, step by step, to ensure the suggestions of our stakeholders were implemented in the formation of this college. We also collaborated with the Academic Planning and Quality Assurance Office, who assisted us with the procedures." Al Kaabi added that the university is keen to be in line with the state's strategy by establishing a college for sports sciences, explaining that the college's academic program has undergone many procedures, through cooperation with the Academic Planning and Quality Assurance Office, in addition to cooperation with the university's strategic partners to submit a proposal suitable for the Board of Trustees.

For her part, QU's Associate Vice President for Academic Planning and Quality Assurance Dr. Mona Al Marzouqi said that the establishment of the College of Sports Sciences is a national project that supports the country's strategy for the sports sector, pointing to the design of the academic programs that the college will offer based on the needs of stakeholders in the sports field, as well as the international sports accreditation standards.

Dr. Al Marzouqi indicated that the colleague will offer a Bachelor of Science program in Sport Coaching and a Bachelor of Science program in Sports Management. The academic programs will be available for both males and females, with an expected intake of 40 students for the academic year 2025/2026 for each Bachelor program.

She emphasized that there are job opportunities for college graduates after coordination was made with stakeholders, including the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in addition to providing future government scholarship opportunities for college students.

Dr. Al Marzouqi said that the career opportunities that will be available to graduates of the College of Sports Sciences at Qatar University are varied, and will include sports activities coordinator, sales marketing coordinator, sports competitions and events coordinator, sports facilities and facility coordinator, physical fitness and special needs, community sports, and physical sports physiology.

QU's Associate Vice President for Academic Planning and Quality Assurance pointed out that work has begun on the preliminary steps to establish the college, which include academic and administrative arrangements for the college and the logistical matters required for its operation. (QNA)
