London, July 31 (QNA) - HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani crowned the winners on the second day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, which continues until next Saturday at the Goodwood Racecourse in the United Kingdom, under the sponsorship of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club.

His Excellency crowned the jockey Hamad bin Joaan Al-Thani after the horse Al Ghadir, owned by Al Shaqab Racing, won the Qatar International Stakes Group 1 race for purebred Arabian horses for the second consecutive year, achieving the first step towards retaining the Doha Triple Crown.

HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani also crowned the winners of the Qatar Sussex Stakes Group 1 race for thoroughbred horses, which was won by the colt Notable Speech, owned by Godolphin, trained by Charlie Appleby, and ridden by jockey William Buick. The prize for this race is one million pounds sterling.

In this race, another horse from Al Shaqab Racing, Al Wakra, came second behind Al Ghadir, securing the top two positions in the major race for Al Shaqab Racing.

Additionally, Wathnan Racing got their first two wins at the festival this year. Al Anoud, owned and bred by Al Shaqab Racing, won the British Stallion Studs race for three-year-old and older fillies and mares over a distance of 2000 meters, under the training of Ralph Beckett and ridden by jockey Hector Crouch. The four-year-old filly secured her third win in her fifth participation, earning praise for her performance and ability to win titles on major tracks.

After Al Anoud won the race, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Joaan Al-Thani received the British Stallion Studs Fillies' Handicap race award from Director of Whitsbury Manor Stud Ed Harper.

The races will continue tomorrow, Thursday, with eight races. (QNA)
