Moscow August 15 (QNA) - The Russian Space Agency, Roscosmos, announced Thursday the launch of the unpiloted Progress MS-28 spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS).

The agency said in a statement that the launch took place via a Soyuz-2.1a rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Progress MS-28 (or 89P as NASA refers to it) is packed with nearly three tons of food, scientific equipment and other supplies for the astronauts aboard the ISS.

The spacecraft is expected to dock with the Zvezda service module in the Russian Orbital Segment of the International Space Station next Saturday.

The Progress MS is a space cargo vehicle developed by Russia to supply the space station with goods, and is used to transport scientific equipment, water, oxygen and food to the station. When these vehicles are docked with the station, their jet engines can be used to adjust the station's orbit in space.
