Cairo, November 10 (QNA) - HE Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the Arab League Ambassador Ali bin Ibrahim Al Malki stressed that the extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit to be held Monday, in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aims to reach an Arab and Islamic consensus on the necessity of stopping the war on the Gaza Strip, and to come up with a unified vision to stop this Israeli aggression, in addition to emphasizing the necessity of achieving stability in Lebanon.
In special remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency said that the holding of this summit is an extension of the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit hosted by Riyadh on Nov. 11, 2023, in which the leaders of Arab and Islamic countries stressed the importance of unifying efforts and coming up with a unified collective position that expresses the joint Arab-Islamic will regarding the dangerous and unprecedented developments witnessed by Gaza and the Palestinian territories, which require unity of the Arab and Islamic ranks in addressing them and containing their repercussions.
His Excellency added that the holding of the extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit confirms once again the importance of reaching an Arab and Islamic consensus on the necessity of stopping the war, with a unified vision to stop the Israeli aggression, emphasizing the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state, and stressing the necessity of Lebanon's stability and reaching solutions to calm the situation in Beirut and reduce escalation in the region.
HE Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League pointed out that this summit is an opportunity to mobilize efforts for a ceasefire, as well as for humanitarian relief work, at a time when Gaza is suffering from signs of famine due to food shortages and the prevention of foreign aid from entering. He noted that this summit will support the continuity of the work of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee in this regard.
His Excellency indicated that the summit will hold Israel fully responsible for what is happening in Gaza and Lebanon, in light of its violation of international law and international humanitarian law, while stressing that just peace and affirming the two-state solution in accordance with the political initiative launched by Saudi Arabia for the international coalition to implement the two-state solution, is the best option for settling the conflict in the Middle East and ensuring security and stability for all peoples of the region and protecting them from violence and wars, especially with the international recognition of Palestine by 149 countries, and support for its right to obtain full membership in the United Nations.
In a related context, HE Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League praised the State of Qatar's efforts to enhance joint Arab cooperation in that regard. He noted that the Palestinian issue occupies a high position among the priorities of Qatar's foreign policy and its diplomatic activity at the regional and international levels.
His Excellency added that this comes from the State of Qatar's firm and supportive stance toward the Palestinian people, in addition to its humanitarian and development efforts, and its ongoing mediation to stop the aggression on the Gaza Strip. (QNA)
