OCHA: 6 Attempts to Deliver Life-saving Assistance to North Gaza Blocked by Israel
New York, November 14 (QNA) - The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that six attempts in the past two days to deliver life-saving assistance to besieged areas in North Gaza governorate were blocked by Israeli authorities.
The three missions planned for Tuesday aimed to bring food and water to Jabalya, Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya. Wednesday's missions were meant to deliver food and water into Beit Lahiya and Jabalya, and to provide protection and psychosocial support for children in Jabalya.
"Yesterday and today, six attempts to deliver life-saving assistance to besieged areas in North Gaza governorate were blocked" by the Israeli authorities, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.
Dujarric said the UN remains committed to its mission to assist those affected by the war and it has submitted four additional requests to Israeli authorities for access to those areas on Thursday.
Meanwhile, OCHA warned that repeated displacement is leaving many people increasingly vulnerable, as critical resources are continuing to be exhausted. As of Tuesday, 79% of the Gaza Strip remains under active evacuation orders. Palestinians continue to be directed to areas in and around Al Mawasi, in southern Gaza, that lack basic infrastructure and essential services.
OCHA noted that efforts to scale up the humanitarian response in southern Gaza and central Gaza continue to be hindered by active hostilities, deepening insecurity and significant access impediments.
Across Gaza, dairy products and eggs are nearly non-existent, while few fruits and vegetables are scarcely reported to be found at extremely high prices. Many items have increased over 1,000 % from pre-conflict prices.
The occupation continues its destructive war on the Gaza Strip, now entering its second year, amid escalating massacres against families and shelters, as well as unprecedented humanitarian suffering across all sectors, particularly in terms of living conditions. There is a severe shortage of fuel and food due to the starvation campaign being waged by the occupation against the residents of the region. (QNA)
