Doha, November 23 (QNA) - The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has revealed the finalization of the first stage of renovation for the sporting facilities dedicated to the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup final, in terms of grounds of sports halls at QBFs premises, as well as Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa clubs.

In a statement on Saturday, QBF said the project is part of an overall plan devoted to upgrading sports infrastructure in collaboration with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) so as to renovate sports facilities ahead of hosting the 2027 FIBA Basketball final.

The work is underway for the second phase of the project that includes the halls of Al Khor, Al Arabi, and Al Wakrah clubs, the statement highlighted.

QBF thanked both the Ministry of Sports and Youth and Ashghal for their unwavering support it received to advance sports facilities ahead of hosting this event.

The upcoming FIBA tournament is a first-of-its-kind iteration to be held in the Middle East and Africa, as FIBA opted for the State of Qatar the host the tournament for its advanced expertise and potential in hosting major sporting events.

The tournament is scheduled to be organized during Aug. 27 and Sep. 12, 2027, with the participation of 32 international teams. The qualifiers for the tournament is set to kick off in November 2025 with the participation of 80 teams, within six qualifying windows until February 2027. (QNA)
