Doha, December 10 (QNA) - On behalf of HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, HE Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al-Thani, crowned the winners of the 10th Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding 2024, in a ceremony held Tuesday evening at Marsa Malaz Kempinski Hotel in Doha.

The ceremony was attended by a host of Their Excellencies, Sheikhs, Ministers, alongside several members of the diplomatic missions accredited to the State of Qatar, as well as distinguished guests, including writers, translators, and researchers.

The second place in the translation category from Arabic to French was awarded to Rania Smarah for her translation of the book Children of the Ghetto II: Star of the Sea by Elias Khoury, with the third place being awarded to Elias Amharar for his translation of the book Nukat Al Mahsoul Fi Elm Al Osoul, by Abu Bakr Ibn Al Arabi. The third place was also jointly awarded to Stephanie Dujols for her translation of the book: Poison In The Air, by Jabbour Douaihy.

In the category of translation from French to Arabic, second place was awarded to Al Hussein Banu Hashim for his translation of the Realm of Rhetoric by Chaim Perelman, with the second place being awarded to Mohammed Ait Hanna for his translation of the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Additionally, third place went to Ziad Said Mohammed Farouh for his translation of A Qur'anic Apocalypse: A Reading of the Thirty-Three Last Surahs of the Qur'an by Michel Cuypers.

Third place was awarded to Lina Badr for her translation of Desert by Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, with the encouragement award being given to Dr. Abdul Wahid Al Alami for his translation of the prophet of Islam, written by by Muhammad Hamidullah.

In the category of translation from Arabic to English, HE Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al-Thani, crowned the winners, with Tahira Qutb Al Din snagging the third rank for her translation of Nahj Al-Balagha, written by Sharif Razi. Moreover, the encouragement award was given to Emily Drumsta for her translation of the poetry collection "Revolt Against the Sun by Nazik Al-Malaika.

In the category of translation from English to Arabic, second place was awarded to Mustafa El Feki and Hossam Sabry for their translation of The Oxford Handbook of Quranic Studies, edited by Muhammad Abdel Haleem and Mustafa Shah, with the second place being awarded to Alaa Masri Al Nahr for his translation of Saladin and the fall of the Kingdom of Jerusalem by Stanley Lane Poole.
In the French language achievement category, the awards were handed to the Al Buraq Foundation and Dar al Kitab al Jadeed al Muttahida. Additionally, in the English language achievement category, the awards were handed to the Nohoudh Center for Studies and Research and the translator Charles E. Butterworth.

The Achievement Award in the Yoruba language was presented to Sharafeddin Badipo Raji and Mashhood Mahmoud Jumba, whilst in the Tatar language, the award went to Kazan Islamic University. Additionally, the achievement award in the Balochi language was handed to Dar Al-Manhal Publishers.

In the Hungarian language category, the award was given to Eotvos Lorand University, the Hungarian Muslim Association, and the translators Abdullah Abdel-Aati Abdel-Salam Mohamed Al-Najjar and Nafi Ma'ala. (QNA)
