Doha, August 14 (QNA) - The Qatar Scientific Club (QSC), an affiliate of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, organized a sustainable technology program to develop green skills for youth to achieve a sustainable world.
The program aims to raise awareness regarding sustainability and environmental issues, empower youth to participate in sustainable development and promote innovation in the technology and sustainability fields, in addition to enhancing cooperation between youth and professionals to achieve sustainable projects.
QSC's Managing Director & Vice Chairman of the Activities Committee Sheikh Ali bin Salman Al-Thani said that the program aims to achieve environmental, economic and social goals within the Qatar National Vision 2030. This is by merging technology and sustainability, promoting sustainable environmental practices, raising awareness of the use of clean technology and renewable energy among the youth, as well as promoting scientific research and innovation to build a knowledge society and innovative economy.
The sustainable technology program plays a vital role in building a sustainable and prosperous future for Qatar, Al-Thani added.
He also noted that the world has begun transitioning to a greener economy. The shift towards an environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly world has become necessary not only to respond to the global climate crisis but also to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
Head of Public Relations and Community Outreach at the QSC Iman Al Obaidi explained that the program included 13 workshops over two days. Each workshop was dedicated to an age group of young people with a specific content and all the workshops had Qatari trainers specialized in the sustainability field.
Based on the capacity of the program, 140 applicants were selected out of 300. Al Obaidi said that QSC aims to provide the content of the workshops online to spread the benefits.
Al Obaidi said that the outcome of the program had 10 projects related to sustainability which were displayed in a special exhibition.
The sustainable technology program coincided with QSC's celebration of International Youth Day, which falls on August 12 of each year.
On the same occasion, the QSC organized a dialogue session on the role of youth in achieving sustainability by using technology.
The session, presented by trainers Fatima Al Shrooqi and Kholoud Al Najdi, opened with introducing the meaning of sustainability and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Discussions then began on the role of youth and technology in achieving sustainable development and how the power of youth can be combined with the potential of technology.
Aligned with the global direction, the QSC has dedicated many programs this past year in the fields of sustainability and artificial intelligence (AI). The programs help develop the capabilities and creative talents of the youth to meet their aspirations and better achieve the needs of the future. (QNA)
