AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023/ QFA Announces the Injury of National Team Striker Mohamed Muntari
Doha, January 01 (QNA) - The Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced today that the National Team and Al Duhail club player, Mohamed Muntari, suffered an ankle ligament injury during the friendly match with Cambodia in the preparatory camp before the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 finals hosted by Doha, during the period from January 12 to 10 February 2024.
Qatari national team striker Muntari will therefore miss the continental tournament, leaving the national team roster that was called up by Spanish coach Bartolome Marquez Lopez.
The QFA stated that player Muntari will undergo surgery at Aspetar Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Hospital during the coming period.
The team technical staff that won the AFC Asian Cup 2019 title invited Al Duhail club player Ismail Mohammed to replace Muntari.
Osama Al Tairi, the national team's midfielder, suffered a cruciate ligament tear a few days ago, forcing him to leave the national team's camp.
The Qatari team defeated its Cambodian counterpart yesterday by 3-0, and will conclude its preparations for the continental cup by meeting its Jordanian counterpart on January 5.
Qatar, the defending champions, will begin their Asian Cup campaign on January 12 against Lebanon in the first group, which also includes China and Tajikistan. (QNA)
