Public Prosecution: Imprisonment, Financial Penalties for Four Defendants Who Committed Crimes at HMC
Doha, March 05 (QNA) - The Public Prosecution confirmed that the specialized Court of First Instance has issued its judgment to penalize the four defendants working at Hamad Medical Corporation, following the statement issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office on July 5, 2023, which included referring 16 defendants, including four employees of Hamad Medical Corporation, to the competent criminal court for committing bribery, exploiting their positions, damaging public funds, disrupting state-related tendering processes, and money laundering.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Public Prosecution stated that the specialized Court of First Instance sentenced the first defendant (a Qatari official) to 15 years in prison and a fine of QR 729 million, the second defendant (of Jordanian nationality) to 11 years in prison and a fine of QR 171 million, the third defendant (of Palestinian nationality) to 10 years in prison and a fine of QR 144 million, and the fourth defendant (of Indian nationality) to 14 years in prison and a fine of QR 313 million, in addition to dismissal from public office and deportation of non-Qataris after serving their sentences.
The statement added that the court decided to punish 10 other defendants, two of whom are Qatari nationals who are owners of companies contracting with Hamad Medical Corporation, with 5 years in prison and a fine of QR 228 million for one of them, and 8 years in prison and a fine of QR 25 million for the other defendant.
The court also decided to penalize 8 defendants working for these companies (6 of Indian nationality and 2 of Jordanian nationality) with 14 years in prison for two of them, 10 years for one defendant, 8 years for two defendants, 6 years for one defendant, 5 years for one defendant, and 4 years for one defendant.
Regarding the financial penalties, the Public Prosecution stated that the imposed fine varied for the eight defendants, with the maximum amount being QR 195 million and the minimum being QR 5 million. Additionally, non-Qataris will be deported after serving their sentences. The Public Prosecution also stated that the court acquitted two of the defendants, one of whom is Qatari and the other Jordanian. (QNA)
