Doha, May 26 (QNA) - Al Arabi won the Qatar Handball Cup for the 2023-2024 sports season after defeating Al Duhail 35-34 in a thrilling final that was decided by penalty shootouts at the Al Duhail Sports Hall on Sunday.
This marks the second time Al Arabi has claimed the title, with their first victory coming in the 2020-2021 season. Al Duhail missed the chance to secure their third title in the competition.
The match was fiercely contested, ending in a 26-26 draw in regular time and a 29-29 draw after extra time, leading to the decisive penalty shootouts where Al Arabi ultimately triumphed.
Al Arabi reached the final by defeating Al Ahli 30-28 in the semi-finals. Al Duhail advanced with a 35-24 victory over Al Rayyan, the league champions, in the other semi-final match.
Following the conclusion of the match, President of the Qatar Handball Association Ahmed Al Shaabi, HE President of Al Arabi SC Sheikh Tamim bin Fahad Al-Thani, and Secretary General of the Qatar Handball Association Mohammed Jaber Al Mulla presented Al Arabi with the cup and gold medals, and awarded Al Duhail the silver medals.
