Doha, July 23 (QNA) - Here is a summary of local news released Monday: -HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received on Monday a phone call from HE UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
-HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met today with HE Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hamza Abdi Barre, who id visiting Qatar.
-In the presence of HE Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Police Academy, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Police Academy celebrated multiple significant milestones on Monday.
-HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi met with HE State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia Ali Mohamed Omar, on the sidelines of the Somali Diaspora Conference, which is being held in Doha.
-HH Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah met with HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the State of Kuwait Ali bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud.
-HE Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, and HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, opened, in Doha on Monday, the Somali Diaspora Conference on harnessing the capabilities of Somalis in diaspora for the prosperity and revival of Somalia.
-HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi has underlined that the Somali Diaspora Conference, currently in session in Doha, constitutes an important opportunity to discuss how to employ the expertise and capabilities of Somali communities abroad in building and developing Somalia and strengthening the economy through investors and entrepreneurs and capacity building through training and development programs, as well as reviewing potential challenges and opportunities for Somali expatriates to participate in the development of their country, and highlighting their success stories in this context.
- HE Acting Director of the Department of American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al Muhannad bin Ali Al Hammadi met at the Mexican Embassy in Doha, with Their Excellencies ambassadors of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) countries.
- Under the auspices of the State of Qatar's Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva, the International Sustainability Conference 2024, organized by the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD), commenced Monday at the UN headquarters in Geneva.
-The State of Qatar is participating in the 2024 model Arab Youth Parliament, held under the theme "Towards Sustainable Community Participation," taking place in Cairo, Egypt from July 21 to 27, with the participation of 100 young men and women from 15 Arab countries.
-The Ministry of Education and Higher Education launched a student support program, which will continue until the end of August and aims to facilitate scholarship procedures, familiarize students with them, and resolve any issues they encounter during the application for the government scholarship program.
-The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has announced the new lists of accredited universities for self-funded study. The number of universities certified for self-funded study reached 763, including 16 universities in Arab countries.
-The Social and Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM) has signed a financing agreement with Teach For Qatar to support the 2024 Summer Institute.
-Qatar News Agency (QNA) held on Monday at QNA's Training Halls a workshop entitled 'Preserving Public Funds,' within the series of training courses and workshops that it organizes to train national media and administrative cadres and raise their efficiency in the specialized media and journalistic fields.
-The general index of Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) rose 46.60 points, or 0.46 % to reach the level of 10,106 points at the beginning of trading on Monday, compared to yesterday's closing, backed by six sectors.
-The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) closed Monday's trading session with an increase of 60.47 points, or 0.60 percent, reaching 10,120.58 points.
-Moody's Ratings has affirmed Qatar International Islamic Bank QIIB rating at (A2/Prime-1) with a stable outlook, confirming that the bank has high liquidity, strong profitability and solid capitalization.
-The Qatar Chamber (QC) recently held a workshop titled 'International Expert on Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDGs) Applications,' in cooperation with the Regional Network Consultancy (RNC), a member of the Regional Network for Social Responsibility (CSR), with the participation of 41 trainees.
- The net profits of the National Leasing Holding Company (Alijarah) increased by 12.8 percent in the first half of 2024 to reach QR 9.740 million, compared to QR 8.634 million in the same period of 2023.
-Qatar National Library (QNL) has hosted students from Sultan Qaboos University in Oman for a comprehensive five-day training programme titled 'Emerging Librarians.' -The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has honored President of Qatar Chess Association, Mohammed Al Mudahka during the celebration of International Chess Day, which commemorates the founding of FIDE.
-President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA), and First Vice-President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), Khalil bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, crowned the winners of the ITTF World Masters Championships Rome 2024. (QNA)
