Doha, September 10 (QNA) - Building on the annual One Book, One Doha reading campaign, Qatar Reads, an initiative under Qatar National Library, is offering audiences a glimpse into literature and art with its Fables in Fashion exhibition. This year, local artists were invited to interpret the timeless themes of Ghassan Kanafanis Men in the Sun - the campaigns chosen book - through their art.
Currently on display at M7 Gallery 2 in Msheireb Downtown Doha until September 14, the exhibition demonstrates how reading can ignite creativity in individuals. This innovative event showcases the enduring relevance of a book written 62 years ago, connecting its profound insights to our contemporary world.
"Fables in Fashion" encourages diverse interpretations of selected fables, translating their themes and narratives into visual art. It highlights how written words can influence and inspire fashion design. It also celebrates the profound connection between literature and visual creativity, fostering a vibrant cultural dialogue and deepening the communitys appreciation for both.
Commenting on the exhibition, Project Manager at Qatar Reads Fatema Al-Malki, said: "The Fables in Fashion art exhibition blends the worlds of literature and art, offering a platform for local creatives to explore how storytelling and visual expression intersect. This annual event showcases the power literature to stimulate the creative economy while celebrating Arab cultural heritage." This year's exhibition includes a special focus on the Palestinian cause, given that the chosen book for this years One Book, One Doha campaign is Men in the Sun. The novella explores the deep challenges faced by Palestinians, capturing their quest for hope through the experiences of three distinct generations.
This annual exhibition provides a platform for book lovers to channel their passion into fashion, showcasing how literature can inspire and influence artistic endeavors. Through this convergence of storytelling and design, the exhibition enhances community appreciation for literary and visual arts, offering fresh perspectives on beloved texts and celebrating the creative interplay between them.
