Doha, October 16 (QNA) - Years of Culture will organize a Photography Journey program across Morocco to explore the kingdom's traditions that are fading out, as part of the Years of Culture Qatar - Morocco 2024.
The program will be organized in cooperation with Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar and Generation Amazing Foundation with the participation of works by photographers Jana Islam Al Mallah and Aisha Samir Al Abdulla.
The two photographers will visit Morocco's various prominent cultural and heritage sites to document customs and traditions that are facing decline.
Al Mallah and Al Abdulla aim to raise awareness about the importance of preserving heritage and highlight the need to protect it for future generations.
A selection of photos from this journey will be displayed in two exhibitions in Qatar as well as Morocco before the end of 2024, allowing the public to view Morocco's traditions and the rich heritage shared with Qatar.
Director of both Fire Station Artist in Residence and Tasweer Photo Festival Khalifa Al Obaidly expressed his enthusiasm for the program.
Al Obaidly, who is also the mentor of Al Mallah and Al Abdulla, said that he hopes that the program would inspire the two photographers to exploit their talent to celebrate the cultural heritage of both Qatar and Morocco and to build lasting ties between the two sides.
He explained that photography is not just capturing images, but is a powerful tool for storytelling, preserving cultural heritage, and conveying emotions, which shows the importance of the program in documenting and protecting shared culture and heritage.
Al Mallah expressed her gratitude for this rare opportunity and that the Photography Journey helps raise awareness about some valuable Moroccan cultural traditions and practices that are in danger of disappearing.
She added that her efforts, as well as Al Abdulla's, aim to revive and preserve these traditions so that they can be passed on and protected for future generations.
Al Abdulla stated that she appreciates the trust placed in her by the people she photographed and that she is excited to embark on this exceptional experience that will contribute to documenting important aspects of cultural heritage.
The Morocco Photography Journey represents a key goal of the Years of Culture initiative which aims to showcase the best of the world to Qatar and vice versa. (QNA)
